The Bauer Mesh Jock shorts are designed to be a loose fitting under garment. As along as you get the appropriate size it will not fit like a compression under garment.

No, additional fasteners are NOT required. The black tabs on these shorts are velcro and will attach to standard hockey socks no problem. There is a flap over each velcro tab to prevent them from sticking to stuff in the wash or your bag.
I use these in goal and prefer them over the garter belt style. I had to cut out the sewn in cup and wear a larger goalie cup, but love comfort of the shorts.
