The 9500/9900 seems like overkill for an 11 yr old. It is a little bigger and clunkier with more plastic than the 7500 - 1.96 lbs vs 1.17 lbs. That's a small weight difference, but may be noticeable to an 11 yr old.

I would rate the 7500 as very adequate. It is very well designed and well built. The strong plastic outer shell and foam core inner shell provide plenty of protection and adds soft gel pads at the pressure points.

Overall, I am very happy with my 5500 and 7500 (essentially the same) and would recommend it to others.

The 7500 is the start of the better helmet construction that is evident all the way up to the 9900. The 9900 was the model I saw, and it had more adjustments on it to make it fit better. I tried them both on and I couldn't justify the price diff. The 7500 fit just as well. And the little micro adjustments on the back of the head were difficult to adjust when wearing the helment. Actually I couldn't slide them without taking it off my head. So I went with the 7500.

answer 3
The 9500 padding is a bit thicker and of course the helmet is more adustable overall. Both the 9500 and 7500 offer great overall protection. The 9500 is the elite version and is more expensive of course. Generally speaking however they are similar in design and features, so it all depends what you can afford or are willing to spend. For an 11 year old I'd personally go with the 7500 because it's good for any level of hockey up to elite levels and the extra features on the 9500 won't make an appreciable difference in the long run. I've found the 7500 to be more than enough helmet for most of my needs.

The Bauer 7500 and 9500 helmets are very similar to one another. The 7500 is made with different padding then what comes in the 9500 but is still very comfortable and very protective. Both helmets are HECC approved which means each helmet was put through a series of tests to make sure they could handle a hard impact. Either helmet would be a safe choice for your 11 year old.

Yes, the Bauer 7500 Helmet has removable ear guards. All it takes is the loosening of a few screws and they come right off.

The 1500 Face cage should have no problem fitting on any Bauer helmet as long as you have the correct hardware.
