are these neck protectors good for impact or just to stop skate cuts?

I am not sure if I should get a dangling plastic one or bib style for my son.

The Bauer goalie bib is designed more to protect against skate cuts than direct impacts. I always recommend wearing both this unit and a plastic dangler to EVERY goalie that I talk to.
