You can put it anywhere you want to shoot from. This is strictly for shooting and stick handling.
When shooting I put it wherever I want to practice my shot from.

The large shooting board is a training tool used to aid in stickhandling and shooting, Ideally the board would be placed directly in front of the player using it.

are the edges of the shooting pad flat so i can put two pads together?

You could, but it would not lay perfect enough to where it would seem seemless. Even stick handling over the seem would be noticeable.

The shooting board is not made to be linked together. If you are looking for something that can be i would suggest the floor tiles.
