Is there THAT big of a difference
Is there really that big of a difference between this and the NME 7?

Yes - there is a big difference between the two masks. The NME3 is made of Lexan, which is a thinner, more flexible material. The NME7 is made of kevlar and carbon fiber, which is rigid and extremely protective. If you're playing beginner level hockey then the NME3 will be fine for a few years. If you're playing competitive hockey, or if you're facing good shots, then the NME7 is the way to go.
