Yes - there is a big difference between the two masks. The NME3 is made of Lexan, which is a thinner, more flexible material. The NME7 is made of kevlar and carbon fiber, which is rigid and extremely protective. If you're playing beginner level hockey then the NME3 will be fine for a few years. If you're playing competitive hockey, or if you're facing good shots, then the NME7 is the way to go.

I would recommend the NME7 if your playing competitively 3-4 times a week. The level of protection in the NME7 masks is much greater than in the NME5.

If you plan to use the mask for the coming years, into high school, I would recommend the NME7. The helmet is one piece of equipment you don't want to leave to chance.

Question
Would you recommend this mask for college-level play?
How would this mask fare in semi-competitive college level play? Would it work fine, or would I be better off with the NME 5 or the NME7? I understand that protecting your face/eyes/brain is not something to skimp out on, but at the same time, $350+ masks are a little bit hard to swallow. Thank you in advance for your response.
