There would be an inch to an inch and a half difference in length but the main difference will be in the waist.

so a jump form a junior small to large would be about 2 -2 1/2 inches longer? my kid is skinny as a rail but his junior small pants are getting short

Yes it always a tough call if someone is between sizes. Each brand has different specs, so an Easton junior small might have similar specs to Bauer's junior medium. The jump from a junior small to a junior large is roughly 2-3 inches in length of the pants. The only concern would be the waist of the the junior large if he is super skinny. The Easton Stealth 85S Player Pants( item #8116-21) are a pant that comes in medium tall that could be an option.
