Can you remove the ear guards?

No. The screw behind the ears is for adjustment like the 4500. The ear guard is a part of the molded plastic front half of the helmet. You'd have to cut it off, which I really wouldn't recommend.

The Bauer 2100 helmet has ear guards that are non-removable.

Yes, most visors will fit on this helmet. Ideally you would want the visor to stay withn one size of the helmet. So for example, if you have a large helmet I would recommend a medium or large visor.
