Yes CCM does recommend baking the U+06 to improve break in time and fit right out of the box.

Real tough to say because on one hand these skates are a perfect skate for some one who is getting back in the swings of things after a lengthy period off. On the other hand you may want to bump up for durability and stability concerns. I would recommend taking a look at the CCM U + 10 skates as a starting point.
