I'm 5'8 and I got size 52, had to exchange them for 50's because they were huge. For someone six inches taller than me however, size 52 might actually be a bit small on you.

Being 5'5" the size 56 would go past your knees quite significantly. I am 5'10" and I have a 40" waist as well and the 54's go past my knee around 2".

The 50 might be a little snug. I am roughly the same size (6'2) and i wear the 52's(large). Its tough to say because you don't want the pants to hang to much below your knee to decrease movement. Going by the size chart provided you would seem to fall in the 52/large category based on your measurements. IF you can get to a store and try them both on that would be the easiet way to figure it out.

Question
G700 vs. GS
What is the difference between the Graf G700 hockey pant and the GS pant???

Their product descriptions here and on their own website are identical as far as I can tell. The only difference I can seem to find is a $40 difference in retail price.
