Customer Questions & Answers for
Vaughn Custom Sports 7490 Velocity 5 Leg Pad

The Vaughn 7490 Goalie Leg Pads are styled directly from the 7990 series leg pads and they are an extremely high quality imported pad. The materials and construction processes used to create the 7490 series are nearly identical to those used in the 7990 pad, making them true Vaughn Custom Spec pads. These leg pads are designed the Hybrid goal tender who like the feel of a softer, Velocity-like boot and shin, but also prefer a thinner, more rigid thigh rise. The 7490 leg pads also feature many of the upgrades found in the 7800 leg pads, including the new internal foam components that eliminate gaps to get more foam into the corners of the pad. By pushing more foam into the corners, Vaughn has created a more solid pad with a firmer shape without making the pad play stiff. Addtionally, the outside calf protection has been widened to more fully cover the back leg area. The 7490 keeps the popular adjustable knee lock from the previous model, as well as the angled strapping that runs underneath the knee bend on the leg. * Knee cradle has adjustment laterally and vertically for custom fit * Solid top outside roll * Taller plus 1.5 sizing * Molded lightweight thigh guard * New V5 graphics * Inner edge balance stabilizer with wide profile for balance * Full leg cradle * Flex-Pac interal padding for rebound control * Custom spec construction for a higher level of performance * SENIOR Available in sizes 32+1.5, 34+1.5, 35+1.5, 36+1.5, 37+1.5

Questions & Answers for Vaughn Custom Sports 7490 Velocity 5 Leg Pad

Question
How are 7490s for butterfly?
I frequently go into the butterfly (I have a wide butterfly) and am coming from no break Reebok 7ks. Will the single break below the knee make the pads stiff enough at the top to close the five hole well?

If you are lucky enough to have a wide bf, you will be a wall with these pads. They are amazing in the bf, the most solid seal to the ice of any pad I have worn, much better than my RX8's or Revoke PZ's.

Absolutely. The 7490's are constructed using solid sheets of foam from the knee break to the thigh rise, which makes the pads really stiff in that area. The break is more flexible than you'll find in your 7K's, but the pad doesn't have much of a pre-curved S shape in it and you can adjust your strapping to use the flex as much (or as little) as you want.

Question
7490 vs 7460
hi just wondering why the 7490 pads are a hundred dollars more than the 7460's since they are both stock pads? Is there a difference in quality? Are there certain features in the 7490 that are not in the 7460's? thanks

The difference in price is mainly due to some materials, and to the way the pad is built. The foams in the 7490 are thicker than those used in the 7460. Also, the 7490 is built exactly the same as the 7990 leg pad (knee cradle, leg channel, etc are identical), whereas the 7460 is a simpler, easier to construct version of the 7800 and does not have the same features. Because the 7490 is a more complex build with better internal foams, it costs more.

Question
How is the durability on these vs USA made pads?
I am considering these as the price fits my budget. I am a beginner at age 23, playing in adult leagues and pick up, im on the ice 1-3 times a week for 2 hours at a time. I don't want to get something that is going to fall apart in a year, if thats the case i'll save the extra money and go for the 7990s.

The 7490 pads are a great option for a goalie playing as often as you do. You are still getting all the great features of the 7990 pad. I would not hesitate pointing you to the 7490 series.

Question
Durability
My issue is two fold with pads. One I wear a 11.5 skate and my legs tend to be a bit longer. Right now I use a Bauer 35+1 and they feel too short, knee doesn't sit correctly. I am considering going to the 36+1. Next, is durability, I play 3+ times a week in A level hockey and they need to take the abuse.
I play a hybrid style but my butterfly tends to be a bit wider so I don't know if I should go with 7490 or the 9500 Vision. If you could answer each of these that would be great. Thanks.
