These pads are substantially lighter but provide the high grade protection that is needed. The U+12's have a lower profile so they will not ride up causing discomfort.

If you can possibly try one or both on would be good plan. If not a would suggest you would be Medium if you just playing men's league or pick up.

I am 5'9" and weigh around 200lbs. Have a relatively big chest - should I go with the large? Or the mediums? How much difference is there between the two?

Though it's tough to say for sure without seeing you try them on. I would recommend the Large for your size. Large will allow for a broader chest, though the arm portion will be longer than that of the medium.
