The INT L/XL will fit slightly smaller than an Adult Small. It is built for a person with the max height of 5'3", and the Adult small fits a max height of 5'5".

More information is needed than just height. I would recommend following the sizing chart found on the product page. You will need his arm span, neck to chest, and neck to bottom measurements.

I recommend that you go with the SM/MED. The arm protection on the LG/XL will be too long to fit, and - assuming that your son does not tuck his chest guard in - the belly should work OK even though it's a bit long.

I'd also recommend that you look into a Breakaway Rewards membership if you don't have one already. That will give you free return and/or exchange shipping, which will be perfect if it turns out that the SM/MED is too small for you.
