this is definitely a "newbie" question but... are the supreme ONE.4 models the same as the ONE40 models? if not, what is the main difference?

They are not the same. The main difference would be the 4.0's have upgraded materials (boot construction, tongue material, higher end runners) compared to the X40's. The 4.0 is for more of an mid level skate while the X40 is a "beginner" skate.

Skates are sized a size to a size and half down from regular shoe size. So if you daughters wears a 7.5 women's shoe, that equals a 5.5 mens. Therefore here skates size would be either a 4 or 4.5.
